“Showtime” Submits Charles Oliveira, Makes Featherweight Impact

The last three wins for Anthony Pettis have all been submissions over Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts.

The latest, though, might have been the most important.

Pettis, a former UFC lightweight champion, locked up a guillotine choke on Charles Oliveira in the co-main event Saturday night of UFC on FOX 21.

“I’m here for one thing and one thing only,” Pettis said. “And that’s the belt.”

“Showtime” had lost three straight at lightweight via decision, prompting his move to 145 pounds. Prior to the setbacks, though, he submitted Gilbert Melendez and Benson Henderson.

“I punched him unconscious in the first round,” Pettis said. “I gassed myself out a bit. I’ll made some adjustments.”
