People already have high expectations for Sergio Pettis, being that his older brother Anthony Pettis became the new UFC lightweight champion last month. Sergio joins the UFC with time as a flyweight and bantamweight. He makes his UFC debut as bantamweight and would like to stay in the 135 pound division.
“The UFC haven’t asked if I’m interested in jumping between flyweight and bantamweight, but it’s something I would be interested in,” said Sergio to MMA Sentinel. “I feel good at 135 pounds and 125 pounds is kind of pushing it. I mean, if the opportunity is there and they want me to fight at flyweight, I would definitely take it because the division is brand new and I would get a title shot right away.”
In the fall of 2011, Sergio turned pro and is undefeated in his nine outings. He won the RFA flyweight title in under a minute over the summer, but Sergio said the weight cut really killed him. About two weeks ago, Sergio captured the bantamweight title out of NAFC. He makes his UFC debut against Vaughan Lee.
Lee is 2-3 for the UFC and has never had a winning streak. He tapped to an armbar from Raphael Assuncao in his last performance.
UFC 167 is November 16 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
