Sergio Pettis calls it ridiculous how his brother won the UFC lightweight title. His older brother Anthony Pettis submitted Benson Henderson in the final 30 seconds of the opening round to claim the belt.
“I expected a knockout, but he’s so confident in his entire skill set,” said Sergio. “He made it look so easy…it was astonishing. It was very inspiring. He was so focused in camp, and it was awesome to see if pay off.”
It was the second time these two competed. The first encounter saw Anthony take a decision win in the final WEC fight. He was the promotion’s last lightweight champion.
Henderson’s undefeated run in the UFC ended with seven wins. He had defended the title on three occasions.
Sergio could be headed to the UFC at the rate he’s going. He’s 8-0 and became the inaugural Resurrection Fighting Alliance flyweight champ over the summer. That knockout win over Dillard Pegg took 51 seconds.
