Sean O’Connell knew he had to put the pressure on Anthony Perosh and that’s what he did, scoring a first round victory at UFC Fight Night 65.
O’Connell called the win the biggest of his career, showing Perosh plenty of respect after the contest.
“Anthony is a very tough guy and if you want to beat him, you have to finish him,” he said. “He deserves more respect.”
A former college football player, O’Connell (17-6) scored his second straight finish after stopping Matt Van Buren in January. He is now 2-2 over four UFC appearances.
“Jeremy Horn tells me if you fight smart, you’re going to win,” O’Connell said. “I just have to not get sloppy. It went our way.”
The loss for Perosh (15-9) dropped his Octagon mark to 6-4.
