Things definitely did not go Sarah Kaufman’s way Saturday night at UFC on FOX 17.
The first-ever Strikeforce female bantamweight champion was handed a split decision defeat at the hands of Octagon newcomer Valentina Shevchenko, suffering her second straight loss.
And while one of the judges gave Kaufman (17-4) a decision, she didn’t agree with that.
“I don’t think it should’ve been a split decision,” Kaufman said. “She deserved to win. I didn’t do enough early on. It’s my own fault and I’m definitely frustrated.”
After making her UFC debut in 2013 with a bout that was reversed to a no-contest vs. Jessica Eye, Kaufman scored a 2014 decision over Leslie Smith. Earlier this year, though, she was caught by Alexis Davis and suffered an armbar defeat.
“I had a great camp and I had a lot to show,” she said. “I just couldn’t do it (Saturday).”
