Sam Sicilia made short work of Godofredo Pepey, snapping a two-fight losing streak with a first round TKO victory Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 32.
Sicilia (12-3), a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter, had dropped a pair of fights to Maximo Blanco and Rony Jason over the past year-plus. This time around in Brazil, he had no trouble with Pepey.
“I came down earlier and came down in shape,” said Sicilia, of the difference in his two Brazilian fights. “I wanted to make short work of him and maybe go and knock someone else out again soon.”
Sicilia and Pepey had a couple of smooth transitions on the ground, but the American looked to his corner for advice. He had Pepey down and wasn’t sure if he should let him up or go for the kill.
“I looked to them for where (the corner) wanted him to get knocked out (on his feet or on the ground),” he said. “I didn’t care. We call that richter scale ground-and-pound.”
