Saad Awad Using A Different Mindset In Second Bellator Outing

During Bellator’s Season 8 lightweight tournament, an injury days before the opening round allowed Saad Awad to join. He made the most of it by taking the first two wins with knockouts that didn’t escape the first minute. Though he was finished in the finals, he enters today’s Season 9 tournament more focused as he’s been studying tapes.

“It’s a little bit different,” Awad on MMA Junkie Radio. “I didn’t look at it as a tournament, I look at it as a fight and I won, but then I have another fight in a month, then I have another fight. This time I’m training knowing I’ll be fighting back-to-back-to-back and hopefully it goes my way.”

The 30-year-old has drawn Martin Stapleton in the quarterfinals of Bellator 101. Stapleton is 12-1 and won the 2012 Cage Contender lightweight tournament.

Bellator 101 will see the lightweight tournament open in its entirety. The show comes from the Rose Garden in Oregon and the main card starts at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
