All it took was one perfectly-placed right hand for Anthony Johnson to serve notice once again to the rest of the light heavyweight world.
“Rumble” connected and dropped Glover Teixeira in a matter of seconds Saturday night at UFC 202, with Daniel Cormier sitting front-and-center. The loss was the first knockout defeat of Teixeira’s UFC career.
“Much respect to Daniel Cormier, but I’m coming for you,” Johnson said. “(Cormier) is a hell of an athlete and a hell of a champion. Much respect to you.”
It took Johnson, who suffered his last loss a year ago to Cormier for the vacant belt, just 13 seconds to defeat the Brazilian. The finish was his 11th career UFC knockout, which is the second most in UFC history behind Vitor Belfort.
“I wasn’t surprised (Teixeira) was putting pressure on me,” Johnson said. “I can fight going backwards, going forward; I can fight.”
