Renzo Gracie came to the defense of Rousimar Palhares, who was released by the UFC for not releasing his heel hook submission early enough. It was the second time Palhares had this problem with the UFC.
After being released last month, Palhares had trouble landing a fight with Bellator and the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) passing. After hearing Gracie defend Palhares, WSOF president Ray Sefo may give the Brazilian a chance after all.
“Initially, I’ll admit I didn’t think World Series of Fighting should even entertain the idea of bring Palhares on board,” said Sefo to MMA Junkie. “But I’ve been speaking with our team, as well as some people I trust throughout the industry and I’m not so sure he doesn’t deserve another chance.”
The WSOF hasn’t officially offered Palhares a contract.
Palhares is 15-5 and last took a 31 second win from Mike Pierce this year. It was the Pierce fight that Palhares was late to release the submission.
