To the surprise of many, Rory MacDonald will not be meeting Robbie Lawler in 2015 for the UFC welterweight title.
According to a report on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday, MacDonald has been passed for for a third bout between Lawler and former champion Johny Hendricks. Earlier this year, Hendricks won a decision over Lawler, while “Ruthless” picked up a decision in the second meeting.
MacDonald told Ariel Helwani that he was “pretty disappointed” that his title shot would have to wait.
The report continued, saying that the manager for Hendricks had yet to hear anything from the UFC regarding a bout with Lawler.
MacDonald (18-2) is coming off a a third straight win, finishing Tarec Saffiedine in October. He also picked up decisions vs. Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia in 2014 after a split decision loss last year to Lawler kept him out of the fight for the vacant title.
