Rony Mariano was upset enough about his 40 second loss to Jeremy Stephens from UFC Fight Night 32 that he took out the aggression on a door. Backstage, Mariano required 23 stitches after slamming his elbow into a door.
Now, the Brazilian athletic commission has handed Mariano a 30 day suspension for his actions. CABMMA CEO Giovanni Biscardi sent out the following statement:
“Due to his anti-sportsmanship conduct in the locker room area, after his bout at the event ‘UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs Henderson’ held on November 9th, 2013, at the city of Goiania (GO), we communicate the suspension of the athlete Rony ‘Jason’ Mariano for a period of 30 (thirty) days, counted as from the end of the period of his medical suspension.”
Those thirty days go on top of the six month medical suspension Mariano is already under. It means a return may not happen until early June. UFC president Dana White wasn’t upset with Mariano.
The loss was the first one Mariano suffered for the UFC. The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil winner is 3-1 for the UFC.
UFC Fight Night 32 was November 9 and came from Brazil’s Goiania Arena.
