UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will grace the cover of “Sports Illustrated,” becoming the first MMA athlete to be featured as a cover model.
The edition hits newsstands on Wednesday.
MMA was last on the cover of “SI” in 2007 when Roger Huerta was featured as part of the rise of the sport.
Rousey’s story, entitled “Ronda Rousey Is The World’s Most Dominant Athlete,” was written by L. Jon Wertheim, a senior staff writer and executive editor. The magazine article comes a day after her biography, “My Fight/Your Fight” was released in stores and online.
The former Olympian and unbeaten MMA fighter is set to return to action later this year vs. Bethe Correia. She was also previously featured in the “Swimsuit Edition” of the popular sports magazine.
