Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza Knows Things Are Still Up In The Air Regarding Title-Fight

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is hopeful that his body of work will hold up and allow him to challenge the winner of Vitor Belfort-Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight title.

Souza was scheduled to meet Yoel Romero, but an injury knocked Romero out. Instead, he fought – and defeated – Chris Camozzi for a second time at UFC on FOX 15.

“Anything can happen in this division, but I believe the the UFC won’t decide that before the Belfort and Weidman fight,” Souza told “The fact that (Luke) Rockhold is ahead of me in the rankings doesn’t change anything.

“Anything can happen.”

Souza (22-3) has won eight fights in a row since a 2011 decision loss to Rockhold for the Strikeforce title. That includes a 5-0 record in the UFC with four finishes.

If Rockhold – or a rematch between Belfort and Weidman – is what’s next, Souza wants to remain an active fighter.

“I know the title shot will eventually come, but I’m in the UFC to fight,” he said. “Every ranked fighter is interesting. I’m in the UFC to fight, not to pick opponents.”
