Robbie Peralta’s third UFC victory might go down as the greatest of his career to date, as the fighter scored a third round knockout of Estevan Payan to start UFC 168 Saturday night.
Possibly down on all three scorecards after two rounds, Peralta’s corner instructed him to go for the finish – which he did.
“I listened to my coaches,” he said. “They help me out and get me where I need to be.”
Peralta (17-4) connected with a left hook that sent Payan staggering backwards, following up with a right that put him on his back. A few shots later, and this one was all over.
“I knew I had to knock him out,” Peralta said. “I caught him and had to finish him off. That’s what I did.”
Peralta is now 10-1 with one no-contest in his last 12 fights, while Payan (14-5) has dropped his two UFC fights.
