Use all the font jokes that you want, but Rob Font is here to stay.
Font made a bold debut in the Octagon with a knockout victory over George Roop at UFC 175 to kick-start the televised prelims Saturday evening.
Font (11-1) has now finished each of his last three opponents, including the two most recent via knockout. The Boston-born featherweight owns a 10-fight win streak and six first round finishes.
“UFC jitters are a lie,” Font said. “I felt great out there.”
Despite Roop, an alum of The Ultimate Fighter, holding a distinct reach advantage due to his height advantage, Font had little trouble getting off shots. The knockout blow actually landed just seconds before a left by Roop would have.
“I’ve fought a lot of tall guys, so I knew what to expect,” Font said. “It felt great. Nothing really (surprised me). (My coaches) told me how it was goign to happen and I executed.”
With the loss, Roop dropped to 15-11-1 overall.
