Ricardo Lamas has heard his name being tossed around as the next to challenge featherweight champion Jose Aldo. The talk is nothing new and Lamas won’t believe it until the ink on a contract is dry.
“I’ve gotten my hopes up before and been let down, so I’m just training, and I still treat it as if I don’t have anything booked yet,” said Lamas to FOX Sports. “To be honest, there isn’t going to be any relief until I sign my name on that dotted line.”
The UFC has mentioned they might fight at UFC 169 in February, but nothing is confirmed. The card will be tied-in with the surrounding Super Bowl festivities.
Lamas was close to a title shot at UFC 163, but the promotion went with “Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-Sung. Since dropping to featherweight, Lamas has won four with three stoppages.
