According to a report on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday evening, a planned heavyweight championship rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez could now take place Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas.
Originally, UFC officials were looking to book the contest for Brazil and March, but issues in attempting to find a location proved problematic.
Werdum (20-5-1) became UFC championw ith a third round submission win this past June over Velasquez in Mexico. The bout had been postponed after Velasquez (13-2) suffered an injury.
The UFC typically holds a major pay-per-view event the Saturday before the Super Bowl, which would be February 6.
