UFC president Dana White has jumped the gun in the past, so his comments regarding a May meeting between Jon Jones and Anthony Johnson for the light heavyweight title cannot be written down in pen.
White, appearing on the Jim Rome Show Wednesday, mentioned UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas as a likely spot. Jones (21-1) is coming off a win earlier this month over Daniel Cormier along with a stint in rehab for a failed drug test.
Johnson (19-4) earned his 10th Octagon victory when he finished Alexander Gustafsson.
“I don’t have the exact date, but May,” White said, of the title-fight.
The card falls on Memorial Day weekend, a time the UFC tries to generally stack with a strong event.
