The UFC will get to pair Demetrious Johnson up against the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 24 for the flyweight title according to a report by MMA Fighting.
“Mighty Mouse,” who was removed from UFC 201 due to an undisclosed injury, will not return to action until the last month of 2016 against the winner of TUF. The UFC brought in 16 regional champions to compete for a shot at Johnson and the gold.
Johnson (24-2-1) was forced out of the co-main event spot at UFC 201 against Wilson Reis. Reis remained on the card and scored a win, while demanding a shot at the belt after and calling into question the move by the UFC to give the TUF winner a crack at the belt.
The Ultimate Fighter 24 begins August 31 on FOX Sports 1 with coaches Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo.
