According to multiple reports, Daniel Cormier has suffered an injury and will not be defending his light heavyweight title this month against Jon Jones at UFC 197.
News of the injury broke on April Fool’s Day, prompting many to call it into question. However, more and more confirmed reports of the injury to Cormier (17-1) have been reported.
Jones (21-1) was set to compete for the first time since early in 2015 when he defended his title against Cormier with a decision victory. UFC officials stripped him of the title and suspended him after a hit-and-run incident in New Mexico.
Last week, “Bones” was involved in yet another traffic incident, resulting in a two-day stint in jail and provisions added to his current probation sentencing.
UFC 197, which takes place April 23, also includes a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo. The UFC has yet to make any formal announcements regarding Cormier.
