According to multiple reports, a pair of UFC title fights are slated to go down at UFC 197.
First, featherweight champion Conor McGregor will move up to 155 pounds and challenge titleholder Rafael dos Anjos for the belt. While competing in Cage Warriors, “Notorious” wore both titles.
The co-main event for the March 5 event from Las Vegas would see Holly Holm make her first bantamweight title defense vs. Miesha Tate.
Recently, UFC president Dana White mentioned a strong desire to see both of these fights take place.
Bleacher Report was the first to report the title fights.
Originally, the card was slated for Brazil, but it is now expected to go down from either MGM Grand Garden Arena or Mandalay Bay Events Center in Vegas.
The last time a champion moved up to challenge another champion was when BJ Penn held the lightweight title and faced off with welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre. Penn lost, but remained the lightweight champion.
Holm was rumored for an immediate rematch with Ronda Rousey, but with Rousey tied up, the former world boxing champion indicated a strong desire to fight sooner rather than later.
