Interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao finished off Eddie Wineland just seconds into the second round and started off a Brazilian celebration, successfully defending his belt in the co-main event of UFC 165.
Barao, who won the interim title over Urijah Faber last year, made it known that he wants only one fighter next: Dominick Cruz.
Cruz has been injured for almost two years, going through a pair of knee surgeries.
“I’m just waiting for Dominick Cruz now,” Barao stated.
Barao, who has won 21 straight fights and is unbeaten since losing his first bout in his career, said that he doesn’t practice the spinning back kick too often because “it can hurt people in practice.”
“But I always try that in fights,” he added. “This time, it worked.”
In a matter of seconds, Barao landed the spinning back kick directly to the chin of Wineland, the first WEC bantamweight champion, sending him back. He bounced, forcing the ref to quickly step in.
