Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will require surgery following a recent training incident.
Evans was scheduled to face Daniel Cormier next weekend, but has been replaced by UFC newcomer Patrick Cummins at UFC 170.
According to Heidi Fang, who attended a press luncheon with UFC president Dana White on Thursday, Evans got hurt catching his foot in a mat. The initial prognosis is that he will be out longer than four weeks after severely twisting his knee.
Evans was looking to climb right back into title-contention with a win over the undefeated Cormier. “Suga” recently topped both Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen.
White also confirmed news that Ian McCall has been forced out of a planned fight with Brad Pickett in England. A replacement to keep Pickett on the card is being sought out by the UFC.
