Much like lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, injuries have derailed the title pursuit of Raphael Assuncao.
Assuncao hasn’t competed since late in 2014 when he scored a decision victory over Bryan Caraway fro his seventh consecutive win.
That was expected to help push him into a title fight for the UFC bantamweight belt, but T.J. Dillashaw took his place and won the title with a victory over Renan Barao.
Now, Assuncao is returning to training after surgery with his sights set on achieving greatness. He first suffered his ankle injury in early 2015, but eventually decided to have the operation in August.
