Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will make his return to the Octagon for the first time in two years later this month, taking on Fabio Maldonado at UFC 186.

Jackson, who debuted in 1999, fought for Bellator MMA. He is expected to have his official status decided next week in a court room, as Bellator filed a legal claim to keep him from fighting.

That wasn’t discussed during an interview Saturday at UFC Fight Night 63, but Jackson did discuss his bout.

“I am super excited to be fighting in front of the Canadian fans and I want to put on a great show for everybody,” he said. “I’m happy to be back.

“I want to get the knockout.”

Jackson scored a victory over Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in his last bout, earning his third straight win since leaving the UFC in 2013 after a loss to Glover Teixeira.

“I just want exciting fights,” he said. “This is entertainment.”

After losing the title to Forrest Griffin in 2008, Jackson worked his way to a bout with Jon Jones for the belt in 2011, losing via fourth round submission. Overall, he is 5-3 in his last eight.

“Take little steps,” he said, of a possible run to another title fight. “Taking out Maldonado, the next guy, the next guy; I need to prove it to myself that I am good enough to be here.”
