Phil Baroni’s return to mixed martial arts is set for July 22, in Temecula, CA, and he’ll be taking on a fellow UFC veteran. Sherdog.com first reported that Baroni will face Karo Parisyan at Bellator 122.
A gruesome leg injury suffered in his TKO loss to Nobutatsu Suzuki has kept the “New York Bad Ass” on the sidelines since their May 2013 fight at One FC 9, when he dislocated his ankle and broke his fibula. The 38-year old Baroni is in need of a win, as he is coming off of back-to-back losses and has gone just 2-7 in his last nine fights.
Parisyan rebounded from his 2nd round knockout loss to Rick Hawn in his Bellator debut with a 2nd round TKO over Ron Keslar at Bellator 116 in April. The fight with Hawn was his only bout in 2013, and prior to that he posted up two 1st round armbar victories fighting under the Gladiator Challenge banner in 2012.
Bellator 122 takes place on July 22nd at the Pechanga Casino & Resort in Temecula and will include a middleweight tournament final between Brett Cooper and Brandon Halsey, as well as a welterweight final between Andrey Koreshkov and Adam McDonough.
