Patricio Pitbull Wishes Pat Curran A Speedy Recovery, Plans To Get A New Bellator Belt

Patricio Freire

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire has waited patiently for his shot at the Bellator featherweight championship, so the top contender isn’t too bothered with waiting a little longer.

It was announced on Wednesday that Pat Curran suffered a calf injury in training and would not be able to make the planned main event fight for the belt.

Freire, who won the Season 9 title to earn a rematch with Curran, took to Twitter to wish the champion a speedy recovery.

“I hope you have a good and fast recovery. I want you 100-percent on fight day,” Freire wrote. “No excuses.”

Curran responded, writing, “Thanks. I will be 100-percent for our fight, and I won’t be the one with any excuses. My belt isn’t going anywhere.”

Freire decided to have a little fun with Curran’s comment, replying back that “I know your belt isn’t going anywhere. Bellator is gonna give me a new one after I beat you.”

Curran (20-5) won back the title when he submitted Daniel Straus earlier this year. Back in 2013, he earned a split decision victory over Freire (21-2), who has gone on to win four straight since that loss. He stated that he should be ready to fight again in July.

Freire has finished Justin Wilcox, Diego Nunes and Jared Downing in three of his last four bouts.
