Fighting in Dublin for the first time since his UFC debut in 2014, Paddy Holohan was unable to send the Irish fans home happy Saturday at UFC Fight Night 76.
Holohan suffered a submission loss to Louis Smolka in the main event inside the 3Arena in Ireland, dropping his record to 12-2-1 and 2-2 over his last four.
“I gave you everything,” he said. “It was a really good fight. I enjoyed it.
“This week has been crazy, but hat’s off to Louis; he came and did the job.”
The two flyweights were shifted to the main event role after injuries to Stipe Miocic and Joseph Duffy cancelled both the planned main and co-main event.
Holohan was rumored for a potential title shot with a win after picking up 2015 decisions over Vaughan Lee and Shane Howell if the UFC is to book a card next year back in Ireland. Now, he’ll have to work his way back up the ladder.
