Nick Diaz Eligible To Fight Again Beginning August 1

The Nevada Athletic Commission unanimously approved reducing the suspension placed on Nick Diaz Tuesday during their meeting in Las Vegas.

Diaz, who had been suspended for five years following another failed drug test, is now eligible to return to MMA beginning August 1. In all, his suspension will have lasted 18 months.

According to the settlement, which MMAjunkie posted online, Diaz must pay a fine of $100,000 either before his next fight or December 1 – whichever comes first. Also, he must provide clean urine samples 30, 15 and three days from his next bout in Nevada for all prohibited in- and out-of-competition substances.

However, that does not include marijuana, which cost Diaz his most recent suspension.

The fine was reduced from $165,000 to $100,000, which was placed on him last January after a third failed drug test following a loss to Anderson Silva. Ironically enough, Silva also failed his drug test for a banned substance.

No word yet on when – or if – Diaz will return to fighting for the UFC.
