Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Healing From Staph Infection
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Healing From Staph Infection Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is recovering from a severe staph infection, which forced the former UFC interim heavyweight champion to bow out of his fight with Cain Velasquez at UFC 108.

Nogueira had just gotten over a staph infection last year before his bout with Frank Mir at UFC 92. The infection was not made public until months after the fight, when Nogueira stated he had the staph infection 20 days before the fight, and had to spend 5 days in the hospital. Despite that, Nogueira went on to face Mir and ended up getting dominated, and dropped the UFC interim heavyweight championship to Mir in the process. Nogueira isn't about to make that mistake again.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, "Big Nog's" twin brother who is coming off of a big win over Luiz Cane at UFC 106 this past weekend, stated that his brother is healing and may be able to start training within three weeks.

“I do not know if he will be ready in time to fight at UFC 109, but within a few weeks he will return to training,” he told Brazilian site Terra.

The UFC announced last week that the bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and Brazilian knockout artist Thiago Silva will now headline UFC 108.
