What a difference a year makes. Until this past summer, Michael Bisping seemed to be next in line for a UFC middleweight title shot against reigning champion Anderson Silva. That was until he suffered a devastating second-round knockout at the hands of Dan Henderson at UFC 100 last July. All of a sudden, fans started doubting the Ultimate Fighter Season 3 winner, with many fans feeling that he was exposed in his fight with Henderson and had been protected by the UFC.
Bisping bounced back in a major way tonight, defeating former PRIDE FC welterweight grand prix finalist Denis Kang via TKO in the second round at UFC 105.
"I am absolutely over the moon," Bisping proclaimed during his post-fight interview.
Bisping admitted to being hurt by the comments fans have directed towards him after his loss to Henderson.
"This is my life, I dedicated everything to this," Bisping stated. "It really hurts me when people don't give me the respect I think I deserve."
Bisping took the fight against Kang, even though it was seemingly a no-win situation for him, as Kang is a dangerous opponent, yet not a big name in the UFC.
"Thank you to Denis for being a great opponent, he took it to me in the first round," he admitted. "It was a no-win situation in some ways. I just want to make this clear, I've never, ever, once questioned an opponent in my life. I'll fight anyone."
Bisping hopes that his victory over Kang will be his first step back towards getting a title shot.
"Sorry to all my fans about the last fight. That was just a setback, I'm going back to the old Michael Bisping, the one you saw tonight," he stated.
"I want to go right to the top. I know I've got a long way to go, so bear with me, I'm trying guys."
