Cung Le May Face Scott Smith On Dec. 19 Strikeforce Card
By Raj Giri | November 07, 2009
Just weeks after Strikeforce announced that Cung Le would be stripped of the Strikeforce middleweight championship after not having defended the title since he won it over a year and a half ago, Le confirmed that he will be returning to the organization for their December 19th card from San Jose, CA. “I’ve been staying in good shape and I’m ready to get back in there for the fans,” Le said during last night’s Strikeforce Challengers event. “I’ll be fighting for Strikeforce on December 19th.”
Since winning the Strikeforce middleweight title from Frank Shamrock in March of 2008, Le has been an absentee champ, opting to display his talents on the big screen. But it appears as though Le is ready to return to the cage, and MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Scott Smith will be Le's opponent for the event.
In the meantime, Jason "Mayhem" Miller will face Jake Shields tonight at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers for the vacated Strikeforce middleweight championship. The main card airs live on CBS at 9 PM ET / PT from Chicago, IL.
