Tim Sylvia Has Surgery, Likely To Return In Japan For New Year's Event
Tim Sylvia Has Surgery, Likely To Return In Japan For New Year's Event Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia finally wins a fight and gets a vacation as his reward, however this isn’t exactly what the heavyweight had in mind. Sylvia underwent successful surgery on his broken right hand on Monday, leaving him on the shelf for the remainder of the year.

“He had surgery on his hand (Monday),” manager Monte Cox told MMAWeekly.com last evening.

Sylvia busted up his moneymaker on Jason Riley’s dome a little while back at at “Adrenaline MMA IV” in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Prior to that, the fallen champ had dropped three consecutive bouts, including his humiliating nine second knockout at the hands of 48-year-old Ray Mercer at “Adrenaline MMA III” back in June.

According to Cox, the surgery went well, however he stated that Sylvia would likely be out until New Year’s. The Japanese shows have always been well known for their star-studded end of the year extravaganzas.

It had been rumored that Sylvia was hoping to make the October 25th deadline for Dream’s new hexagon-shaped cage at Dream.12, but it appears he can stick a fork in that idea.
