Sean Sherk will not be fighting Gleison Tibau at UFC 103. But it’s injury, not skipping a drug test, that is keeping him out of the octogon. That’s according to Sherk’s manager Monte Cox, who is shooting down rumors that Sherk purposefully dodged drug tests administered by the California State Athletic Commission needed to compete in the state of California.
“He separated his shoulder in training and had to pull out of his fight. [A copy of the] MRI was sent to Zuffa. He didn't skip any test... if you're not fighting, you're not going to apply for a license. No big conspiracy in this,” Cox recently told Bloody Elbow.
Sherk has a turbulent history with the CSAC. The commission reported that he tested positive for steroids following UFC 73. The “Muscle Shark” was stripped of his UFC Lightweight title, after which he vowed never to fight in California again.
“Sean has passed 7 drug tests since the California incident,” Cox noted.
UFC 104 takes place on October 24th from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
