Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Says Fedor's First Fight Won't Be For The Title
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Says Fedor's First Fight Won't Be For The Title Coming off the heels of last weekend’s “Carano vs. Cyborg” card, Strikeforce’s next big event appears to be Fedor’s debut with the San Jose based promotion. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently spoke to Steve Cofield of CageWriter.com about his plans to build the Russian heavyweight’s profile stateside before he fights for the title.

“I say let’s put him on TV a couple of times and then let him fight in the big fight,” Coker said.

Coker listed Strikeforce heavyweights Paul Buentello, Brett Rogers, and Sergei Kharatanov as possible candidates. Somewhat surprisingly, Fabricio Werdum, fresh off of a first round submission victory over Mike Kyle, was not mentioned as a potential opponent.

The Strikeforce CEO also shot down the rumor of Ricco Rodriguez being the first test for Fedor saying that Rodriguez’s agent, Ken Pavia, started the rumor.

Coker also stated that Fedor’s debut would likely take place in either October or November of this year. The fall is already packed full of top flight MMA cards with UFC 104 set to take place on October 24th, UFC 105 scheduled for November 14th, and the recently announced UFC 106, with Brock Lesnar returning to the cage to defend his title against undefeated challenger Shane Carwin, penciled in for November 21st.
