Nick Diaz's Title Fight At "Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg" In Jeopardy
Nick Diaz's Title Fight At "Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg" In Jeopardy During today’s "Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” conference call, CEO Scott Coker confirmed that the open welterweight title bout between Nick Diaz and Jay Hieron may be in jeopardy after Diaz failed to take a mandatory pre-fight drug test this past Friday.

When Coker reached out to Diaz’s camp, his long-time trainer Cesar Gracie said that it was a minor oversight as Diaz was out of town training for the five round fight.

“It’s a frustrating situation all the way around. As for why (Diaz) missed the test, Cesar told me he was in the mountains training,” Coker stated.

Coker was clearly agitated that something like this could happen at the eleventh hour. He expects to hear from the California State Athletic Commission by 3PM PT today on Diaz’s official status.

“As far as I understand, (Nick) is supposed to be on his way to L.A. to take his (drug) test with the Athletic Commission,” Coker added.

This isn’t the first time Diaz has had trouble with drug tests. Following his upset victory over Takanori Gomi at Pride 33, The Nevada State Athletic Commission had ruled the bout a no contest due to Diaz failing a pre-fight drug test with marijuana.

Coker said he’s been in discussion with Diaz and his manager, Cesar Gracie, and the Strikeforce executive is “hoping [Diaz] will make the right decision.”
