Despite yesterday's article in the Los Angeles Times stating that Fedor Emelianenko and the UFC were close to finalizing a deal, officials from Emelianenko's management company, M-1 Global, told SI.com that they were not close to coming to an agreement.
"I can give you a guarantee it's not accurate," Apy Echteld of M-1 Global stated of the report.
According to the report in The Los Angeles Times, UFC President Dana White was to announce the signing of Fedor Emelianenko this Friday. However, while Echteld wouldn't comment on negotiations between Fedor and the UFC, the SI.com story stated that negotiations are rumored to be taking place next Tuesday in Los Angeles.
MMAJunkie reported today that Strikeforce is also interested in signing the Russian heavyweight. The MMAJunkie report also states that Fedor's next fight is unlikely to be with the UFC.
Emelianenko will hold a press conference in Los Angeles this afternoon. Stay tuned to FightLine.com for updates on the press conference throughout the day.
