 Strikeforce has just announced that their Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg card will now have an astonishing four titles on the line, as Nick Diaz’ fight against Joe Riggs on August 15th will crown the organization’s first ever welterweight king.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed the news today with MMAJunkie.com
Riggs took a unanimous decision over Diaz at UFC 57 many moons ago. Since that loss, Diaz has gone on to win nine of his last 11 contests, not including his "win" over Takanori Gomi, who was the world’s best lightweight at the time.
Diaz submitted Gomi with a nasty gogoplata, propelling Gomi into his current downward spiral. Days after the upset, Diaz tested positive for marijuana and the bout was changed to a no contest.
Riggs, on the other hand, has gone a mundane 6-4 since his original battle with the Cesar Gracie-trained fighter back in February of 2006. He is riding a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent coming by way of unanimous decision over the controversial Phil Baroni at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields earlier this month.
“Carano vs. Cyborg” will take place inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Here is the list of fighters rumored to be competing in the Showtime broadcast:
