Thiago Alves Plans On Taking Belt Back To Brazil
Thiago Alves Plans On Taking Belt Back To BrazilThe number one contender to Georges St-Pierre’s UFC welterweight title has been training at Wanderlei Silva’s gym in Las Vegas in preparation for his July 11th title shot. Thiago Alves is confident he will be able to defeat St-Pierre “Wanderlei-style” come UFC 100.

“I just want to go through him and bring the pain. That’s the mentality, Wanderlei-style,” Alves said during a brief training break.

There’s no doubt that Alves is one of the few welterweights in the UFC that can physically match-up with the beast that is St-Pierre, but experience is definitely on the champion’s side.

Alves’ UFC 85 victory over Matt Hughes was arguably the biggest of his career, but he knows that challenging for the belt is a completely different story.

In order to beat the 170-pound king, Alves knows he needs to be aggressive.

“I just want to kill [St-Pierre] and run through him. I’m bringing this belt home,” he stated.

The two will co-headline the UFC’s centennial event at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. This scrap got bumped from it's main event status after the organization was able to ink a heavyweight unification bout featuring champion Brock Lesnar facing interim champion Frank Mir.
