Andrei Arlovski Ousted From Affliction
Andrei Arlovski Ousted From AfflictionAffliction Entertainment is so sick of Andrei Arlovski’s propensity to fall asleep on the job, that it has decided to cut ties with the former UFC heavyweight champion. Arlovski’s last two bouts have lasted a total of 3:36, each ending with him face-planting on the canvas.

With his current Affliction contract now expired, Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio confirmed with Fighters Only Magazine that they will not offer him a new deal.

Although Arlovski holds a 15-7 professional mark, he has fallen on some tough times of late. His downward spiral was highlighted against Brett Rogers at Strikeforce : Lawler vs. Shields earlier this month, where the former UFC heavyweight champion was getting slapped silly for 22-punishing seconds before the referee ended it.

Before that loss, Arlovski looked sharp in the early moments of his title fight against WAMMA heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: Day of Reckoning this past January. However, one risky flying-knee attempt later and Arlovski was put to bed with a looping right overhand.

Prior to his current two-loss skid, he had rolled off five consecutive victories with all of them coming via the knockout variety.

It was obvious why Atencio chose not to re-up with Arlovski, as he has been one of the organization’s highest earners since its inception. Arlovski’s bill for beating Ben Rothwell at Affliction: Banned last July was $750,000, with $250,000 of that coming via a win bonus.

However what must have really soured Affliction on him was the fact they had to shell out $1.5 million for Arlovski’s services against Emelianenko, a scrap that lasted all of 3:14.

At the tender age of 30, it is likely that Arlovski will get another shot somewhere, especially with his extensive resume. He has fought the who’s who of MMA heavyweights, however the days of cashing in paychecks similar to the ones signed by Atencio and Co. are long gone.
