Strikeforce has officially released the roster for their Villasenor vs. Cyborg event on June 19th inside the ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington. Although there are plenty of no-names on the card, the main event could prove to have title implications.
We reported earlier that Strikeforce is seriously considering manufacturing an interim middleweight title while their reigning 185-pound king Cung Le continues to pursue his budding acting career.
The winner of the Joey Villasenor-Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos matchup will join Jake Shields and Nick Diaz on the short list of Strikeforce interim champ hopefuls. Evangelista is the husband of another popular “Cyborg,” his wife Cristiane, who is preparing for her mega-fight against Gina Carano in August.
The event will be the San Jose, California-based organization’s first venture into the state of Washington as the promotion continues its aggressive expansion efforts.
The Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields show this past weekend in St. Louis, Missouri was the furthest east that Strikeforce had ever traveled. Traditionally, they hold their events on the West Coast.
Here are the fighters slated to be competing in the Showtime event:
Len Bentley vs. Marques Daniels Travis Doerge vs. Landon Showalter Lyle Beerbohm vs. Duane Ludwig Brian Caraway vs. Alex Zuniga Dennis Hallman vs. Cedric Marks Cory Devela vs. Luke Rockhold Shayna Baszler vs. Sarah Kaufman Jorge Gurgel vs. Conor Heun Tim Kennedy vs. Nick Thompson Joey Villasenor vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos
