Brandon Vera Talks About His Wife's First Victory, Matt Hamill, Winning Two Belts & More
Brandon Vera Talks About His Wife's First Victory, Matt Hamill, Winning Two Belts & MoreBrandon "The Truth" Vera is a busy man these days. In addition to preparing for his upcoming fight with Matt Hamill at UFC 102 on August 29, 2009 in Portland, Oregon, his wife Kerry Vera also won her first MMA fight at Bellator 7 a couple of weeks ago, defeating Leslie Smith by unanimous decision.

"For her first MMA fight, you know, I was telling some people earlier, she did cage work, she did combinations, she rocked the girl, she got rocked twice, still kept her footwork about her and listened to her corner well," Brandon said of his wife's performance to Rod Moyer of FightLine.com. "You can’t ask for anything more on her first big stage pro MMA debut. I’m super proud of her!"

However, Brandon did note that it was difficult watching her fight saying "I don’t like it! I don’t like watching her fight! I’d much rather be fighting. So, its hard man. It’s hard to watch. It sucks with the role reversal. I didn’t like it but it is what it is. She’s really good, man."

Despite Brandon having a tough time sitting on the sidelines while his wife is in the cage, Kerry Vera noted that Brandon is her biggest supporter.

"He’s there for me every night when I come home and I’m complaining, and miserable and sore," Kerry said. "He’s the one who rubs my back and brings me dinner and makes me feel better. So that’s his role!"

As for his upcoming fight with Matt Hamill and his future plans, Brandon noted that he still has his eye on the UFC light heavyweight championship . . . and the UFC heavyweight championship.

"Since my loss to Jardine, I don’t give a damn who I’m fighting. You’re the next person in the way for me to get that damn belt. BOTH BELTS!" Vera stated. "I’m still goin’ after both them belts. I don’t give a damn what anybody says, and I don’t care if they just started fighting MMA yesterday or [if] it’s Matt Hamill, Wanderlei Silva, whoever!"

"It doesn’t matter whose in front of me, I’m going to try to finish the fight hardcore," Vera continued. "I’m in shape . . . I’m trying to punish people now. I told everyone when I first came around, I'm gonna get both f****in' belts, and I'm gonna get both f****in' belts!"
