Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett Signed For Affliction III
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett Signed For Affliction IIIAfter much speculation and anticipation, it appears that Affliction Entertainment’s third MMA promotion will be taking place on August 1st and will be headlined by Josh Barnett challenging WAMMA heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko for his strap.

MMA FanHouse was the first to break the news, and according the their report, there should be an official announcement within the coming days.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio has previously confirmed that regardless of the event date, the show would once again be held inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Apparently, Atencio must feel very comfortable there as their first two shows, “Banned” in July of 2008 and “Day of Reckoning” this past January, were held at the same venue.

This heavyweight clash was the ace up Affliction’s sleeve. Although it is the most highly anticipated heavyweight fight in the world, the question is, what will be left for the start-up organization after they show their best hand? Furthermore, what if their gold meal ticket were to lose his first fight in over eight years?

It is being reported that Atencio is also working on a Paul Buentello vs. Tim Sylvia heavyweight contest, as well as a Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon bout for the event.

However, that lightweight bout might be a pipe-dream as Horodecki is already scheduled to fight in July.
