Quick Shots: Nogueira On His Fight With Mir, Paixa Returns, Atencio & More
Quick Shots: Nogueira On His Fight With Mir, Paixa Returns, Atencio & More* Former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Nogueira talked to BrasileCombate.com.br about his loss to Frank Mir last December, as well as his August fight with Randy "The Natural" Couture. He noted that he was injured in his fight with Mir, saying “I wasn’t getting to take the fight to the floor. I had an injury two weeks before the fight when I went to USA. I had my knee hurt and tore my meniscus and it messed up my standing training and takedowns. My knee displaced many times during the fight. I wasn’t well at all. I wasn’t 100%. Now it’s time to train harder and face Randy.” The interview noted that Nogueira had surgery since the fight and is now recovered and into his training camp, which includes sessions with Anderson Silva.

* Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio is planning on fighting on June 27th on the undercard of the Bobby Lashley vs. Bob Sapp pay-per-view fight at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi. Atencio holds a 1-0 MMA record, having defeated David Martinez (2-3) in his debut at the Total Combat 7 event in Tijuana, Mexico in January 2005.

* WEC featherweight Fredson Paixao (8-3) recently told MMAJunkie Radio that he will return to the WEC at WEC 42, which is expected to take place on August 23rd. Paixao had made his WEC debut at WEC 40, where he suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Wagnney Fabian.
