UFC 101 Confirmed for Philadelphia
UFC 101 Confirmed for PhiladelphiaThe Ultimate Fighting Championship is poised to host an event in the northeast for the first time in nearly two years with UFC 101. This event will take place at the Wachovia Center and will be broadcast live on PPV on August 8, 2009.

Recent regulation allowing Professional MMA events in Pennsylvania took effect on February 27th of this year, clearing the way for the UFC to plan an event at the “City of Brotherly Love.” This event shapes up to be one of the most exciting in recent history with two bouts worthy of main event status.

The confirmed main event is a lightweight championship match between universally-regarded #1 155-pound fighter BJ Penn squaring off against longtime number one contender Kenny Florian.

Also recently confirmed is a light heavyweight super-fight between fan favorite Forrest Griffin and middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The often criticized Silva will no doubt be pushed to deliver an exciting finish and will be challenged by a resurgent Griffin, who holds wins over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Maurico “Shogun” Rua.

Ticket information for UFC 101 should be made available by the UFC shortly.
