Patrick Cote Eyeing Late Summer Return to UFC
By Mike Calimbas | April 28, 2009
Patrick Cote can’t wait to get back into the cage. The Canadian has been on the shelf since the knee injury he sustained in his UFC 90 bout with Anderson Silva in late 2008. Now the 13-5 fighter out of BTT Canada is now eyeing a late summer return to the octagon.Speaking of Anderson Silva, Cote has been highly vocal about his eagerness to rematch the pound-for-pound king following the champion’s controversial decision victory over fellow contender Thales Laetes. Patrick Cote states that he felt comfortable in his own fight with Silva up until his second round injury. He definitely feels that he has unfinished business to take care of in a potential rematch and is looking to work his way up the middleweight rankings to do so.
"I want a big fight right away. I want a top five or top-10 guy. I already say that to the UFC management. They say they are able to do it. They are going to give me a top guy, for sure," he stated to MMAWeekly this past Monday.
Cote may have to step in line, however, as the UFC is scrambling to pit the champion against fighters likely to increase his PPV drawing ability. A recently reported match against Forrest Griffin at UFC 101 is the latest news for the middleweight title holder and certainly fits the bill as a matchup of potential fireworks. Patrick Cote could be next provided he gets past his next opponent.
