Tavares Out, Tibau In for UFC Fight Night Finale With Guillard
By Dave Peze | April 25, 2009
Tibau is coming off two consecutive wins against Jeremy Stephans and Rich Clementi. The 25 year old Brazilian will look to improve upon his 5-3 record in the UFC and demonstrate that he is a contender within the 155lb division. He will replace his fellow American Top Team teammate, Thiago Tavares. Tavares recently suffered an elbow injury forcing him out of the fight.
Melvin Guillard stopped Dennis Siver with a first round TKO last July at UFC 86. The win against Siver was Guillard's first in the UFC since defeating Gabe Ruediger at UFC 63 in September of 2006. Since then he suffered submission defeats to Joe Stevenson and Rich Clementi and won a decision against little-known Eric Regan outside the UFC. Guillard, a brash 26 year old from New Orleans, is looking to re-establish himself in the UFC ranks.
This matchup is expected to be a battle of styles. Tibau boasts outstanding submission skills while Guillard is an athletic and dynamic striker.
