 On Tuesday, UFC welterweight Karo Parisyan was issued a 9 month suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his failed UFC 94 drug test. Parisyan has also been assessed a $32,000 fine by the NSAC, which will go directly to the athletic commission.
Also apart of the punishment, Parisyan’s January 31st victory over Dong Hyun Kim has been overturned and ruled a no-contest, and he must also submit to random drug testing.
Karo Parisyan tested positive for prescription painkillers hydrocodone, hydromorphone and oxymorphone following his UFC 94 victory.
The commission voted unanimously to suspend Parisyan, who represented himself at the hearing. The commission felt that Parisyan's high levels of the drugs masked his pain during the UFC 94 fight and thus giving him an unfair advantage.
Parisyan debuted with the UFC in 2003 and he is 8-2 with one no contest in 11 UFC fights.
