MMA Quick Quote: B.J. Penn To Retire
MMA Quick Quote: B.J. Penn To Retire"I have no clue what is going on in my head right now. I was going to make this my last fight and finish up fighting GSP. In my head, I was with [the UFC] for nine or ten years and I kind of just wanted to be finished with this whole thing after this. So I don’t know where my head is right now."

-UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn breaks his silence to KHON2 revealing that he was planning to retire with a victory over Georges St. Pierre. His comments directly contradict statements he's made in the past regarding his future. This summer Penn told fans that he planned to fight for ten more years and wanted to build his legacy to become one of the greatest MMA fighters of all-time.

We've seen what loses can do to elite fighters, specifically in the wake of Quinton Jackson's loss to Forrest Griffin this past fall. These fighters put their heart and soul into every performance and a defeat can be crushing. Anything Penn says in the near future should be viewed within this context.

It'll take Penn time and some soul searching before we really know what's up next for the worlds greatest lightweight fighter, but here's to hoping we see Penn back in the octagon for the next five to ten years putting his otherworldly abilities to work against guys his own size.
