Originally scheduled to take place at UFC 89 in October, Lyoto Machida will now have to wait until January to fight Thiago Silva. A back injury forced Silva to pull out of the proposed UFC 89 bout but now it appears that he will be healthy in time as the UFC has re-offered the fight to both light heavyweights according to Tatame.
Machida has always had a tough time finding opponents in the UFC due to the style that he employs when he fights. Always known as a tactical fighter, he leaves many fighters weary that they may be outpointed in a less than stellar showing.
Both Silva and Machida own perfect records at 13-0, so obviously one fighter is going to leave with their first loss while the other will move one step closer to a title shot depending on how impressive that win is.
Machida vs. Silva will now join BJ Penn vs. Georges St-Pierre II which will be a re-match of their UFC 58 fight in which Georges St-Pierre narrowly outpointed Penn.
